Yes! You can install Speedheat floor heating underneath bamboo flooring. In fact, bamboo flooring is an ideal match for Speedheat underfloor heating. Bamboo’s natural properties transfer heat better than wood, therefore warming your home effectively.
Solid and engineered bamboo flooring are both compatible with Speedheat systems.
Bamboo flooring has dimensional stability that allows it to withstand fluctuations in temperature. The bamboo will naturally expand and contract slightly as the temperature increases and decreases.
We’ve listed a few important guidelines to ensure that your bamboo floors provide a lifetime of quality use.
Steps To Follow When Installing Speedheat Floor Heating With Bamboo Flooring:
The subfloor should be dry, level, clean, and properly prepared with damp proofing.
Allow the bamboo flooring to acclimatize before installation. Acclimatization is an important first step to stabilize the installation of bamboo flooring.
Place it in the room where it will be installed for at least 3-7 days before installation, to ensure the flooring won’t expand or contract during installation. This allows the bamboo flooring to acclimatize to the room’s standard temperature and humidity.
The entire chosen room or area should have underfloor heating to allow your bamboo floor to heat up and cool down evenly.
If you decide to glue down your bamboo flooring, you must have a full surface bond using flexible flooring. Alternatively, your bamboo floor can be floated over a low tog underlay specifically designed for use with underfloor heating.
Never use nails or screws during the installation of your bamboo floor in case they puncture the underfloor heating element.
An expansion gap of at least 10mm must be left around the perimeter of the room, including doorways, to allow the bamboo to naturally expand and contract with the fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
Bamboo manufacturers specify the maximum surface temperature of your bamboo floor should not exceed 27ºC.
